Motorcycle Pants Fitment Guide

When it comes to motorcycle protective gear, riding pants can often be overlooked, yet they really shouldn’t be. Quality riding pants will help prevent serious damage from occurring to your lower half, protecting important areas such as your knees and hips. Finding the right pant fitment can be a little difficult, as there are several factors you must consider. Check out this full fitment guide, highlighting key tips on how to correctly fit motorcycle protective pants.

Safety and comfort should always be at the top of your list when purchasing any motorcycle riding gear and it's no different with riding pants. Not only can motorcycle pants save your skin in an accident, yet specialised pants also offer features like waterproofing, added ventilation, and increased flexibility, that your street clothes might not have.

Finding Your Pant Measurements!

All you’ll need to find your pant measurements is a soft measuring tape and an extra pair of hands.

Waist measurement: Finding your true waist measurement is fairly straight-forward. Wrap the soft measuring tape around your belly button. Note the results, it's that easy! Your waist measurement is one of the more important measurements you’ll need, so take your time and be as accurate as possible here.

Hip Measurement: Moving down the leg, wrap the measuring tape around your hips, which is usually going to be the widest part of your lower body. The importance of this measurement is to account for hip armour, sitting where it should be.

Inseam Measurement: Placing the measuring tape at your crotch, follow the inside of your leg until you reach the ankle. This will be your inseam measurement. This is where a trusted pair of hands comes in handy.

Thigh Measurement: Although not as important of a measurement as the others on the list, for peace of mind, note down your thigh measurement. This is rather easy to find. Simply wrap the tape measure around your thigh, slightly below your crotch region.

Reference the diagram below for the best results.

Now that you have all the necessary measurements, reference the specific manufacture sizing guide accordingly, as manufactures will vary slightly in size.

If you’re in-store, this is a great opportunity to try them on, and test it out on a motorcycle. Your knees will be bent while sitting on the bike, so make sure there’s no pinching or pulling around your thighs and knees.

Motorcycle pants should feel snuggle on the waist and follow your leg seamlessly around your hips, knees and ankles. If you find the pants riding up too much while sitting on the bike, grab yourself a pair of longer fitting pants. The last thing you want are exposed ankles. It may take some time to find that perfect fit, yet once you do, it's a game changer! If your pants have armoured padding, note where the armour is sitting while you are mounted on the bike. Is it falling down or riding up? This can point to signs of the pants being too large or small. Be diligent here and don't settle for anything less than perfect.
Tip: If your pants are too long, get stylish and roll them up (Similar to the image below).
