This Is Our Family: Dave’s Story

My name is Dave Holmes (kiwi dave) of Brisbane, I have been around bikes since birth on a dairy farm, so it’s in the blood. I have owned many bikes in my past, a few Jappas, a Triumph Hard tail chopper and my fair share of Harley’s! My first ever Harley-Davidson was an XLCH 1000 and my love for Harley didn’t stop there, moving onto a 1986 XLH 1200, 2003 Sportster, 883 Hugger, 1942 WL with Sidecar, 2015 Super Lo and most recently a 2014 Fat Boy Lo! Which makes quite the list… My Wife also rides and she currently owns a 2016 Street Bob, which the team at Morgan & Wackers helped us out with.

I have been around Morgan & Wackers since moving here in January 2007 saying “I’ll be in one day to pick up a Harley.” And after going 7 years without a bike, head down, bum up, working interstate and away from home. I decided to go in and finally start riding again with the 2014 fat boy lo and I’ve never looked back. Having bought three Harley models from the Morgan & Wacker team, with probably more to come! I love the free and easy come and go atmosphere, the H.O.G chapter and the attitude of, if we haven’t got it well try really hard to get it… Which they follow up with calls and emails! My wife, kids and I love the friendly greetings and freedom the team offers at Newstead, and even when I surprised the wife with her new 2016 Street Bob the team went above and beyond with flowers and the works as the delivery fell on Valentine’s day.

I was going to bomb my fat boy by going to the states for a little holiday and picking up pre-ordered hard saddle bags, LEDs etc. with a cost of over $12k! But out of the blue the wife and I called into Morgan & Wackers and enquired about the new 107 Street Glide (which had all that I wanted to make my Fat Boy a bagger.) I asked to take a demo for the weekend and I must admit I was never a grandad bike kind of person, but I was sold from the 50k mark! With comfort, handling and power (even at stock). Once I was out on the highway I called the wife via intercom and said “ THIS IS LIVING” I smiled. I had tunes, I had cruise control, the cornering was magnificent and the braking was so good when needed. I didn’t have a sore back or sore shoulders, all I wanted to do for the first time ever on a bike was keep riding and thoroughly enjoy my time on two wheels.

That was Saturday/ Sunday. Come Monday morning I went in and traded my Fat Boy Lo for a bloody awesome 2017 107 Milwaukee-Eight Street Glide in Velocity Red! Mike made the whole process so smooth and enjoyable, so much so that that I could do it again asap! Glen went out of his way to help build the exact bike I wanted and the sound is just PUUUUUUUUUURFECT! So, a huge thank you to Mike, G.T and the Team at Morgan & Wacker Harley-Davidson®.
