Morgan & Wacker’s 100 Year Celebrations
Please find below the wrap up of our 100 year celebrations!
In 1917, Arthur Davidson and his wife Claire embarked on the massive journey from America to the shores of Australia, by boat. The Federation of Australia had only occurred 16 years earlier, and there was a mere 5 million Australian residents. They met with Bob Morgan, and brothers Henry & Bill Wacker in Brisbane, and there began the story of Morgan & Wacker Harley-Davidson®, and with it, the first Australian motorcycle dealership was born. Fast forward 100 years to 2017, the world is a very different place, but one thing is the same, Morgan & Wacker is still selling dreams (Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles) to Australians.
We kicked off our celebrations in early May, in conjunction with Harley-Davidson® Australia and were lucky enough to host Great-Grandson of William A. Davidson and Harley-Davidson Museum (Milwaukee, USA) Vice President, Bill Davidson for two fantastic events.
On Friday May 5th we hosted our Brisbane H.O.G.® chapter for a celebration of all things Morgan & Wacker and Harley-Davidson. Nigel Keough (Harley-Davidson ANZ Managing Director), Marc McAllister (Managing Director of Harley-Davidson International Markets) and Bill Davidson were our special guests, all presenting speeches about the rich history and exciting future of Harley-Davidson in Australia. Paul Lewis, Morgan & Wacker Harley-Davidson Dealer Principal was presented with a 100th Anniversary plaque, and we revealed our 100 Year Morgan & Wacker merchandise (now available in store!).
Arguably the most exciting announcement of the evening was that Morgan & Wacker will be building 100 limited edition Harley-Davidson models, numbered and complete with 100 year paint tin set and derby covers to commemorate our centenary. We presented number 1 of 100 – a 2017 Breakout® to it’s lucky new owner, Brendan James on the night. Brendan met with Paul and Glenn (our Customization Specialist) to decide how to take his very special Breakout to the next level. Here is what they did:
After adding the limited edition paint set to the 1 of 100 Vivid Black Breakout, we also added CVO™ Pro Street handlebars and riser, CVO Pro Street Smoked Satin exhaust headers, V-Rod® Night Rod® Special headlight and shroud to transform the front, Blackline tank panel giving the smooth long lines, along with a black flush mount fuel cap, Chopz tail section and LED lights continue the slick lines of the bike all the way through to the tail, Rinehart Racing mufflers to enhance the iconic Harley-Davidson sound, and finally a Screamin’ Eagle Elite Heavy Breather and Race Tuner to take care of induction. All topped off with a signature and date from Bill Davidson on the rear fender.
Bill Davidson handed over the keys and signed the rear guard of the bike. A huge congratulations goes out to Brendan, who is a dedicated Morgan & Wacker customer. Want to have a limited edition Morgan & Wacker Harley-Davidson in your garage?
RPM Segment – Aired Sunday May 14th
On Saturday May 6th we closed down our street and opened our doors for our biggest party yet! With a huge 100th anniversary Show N Shine, live music from the Spun Bearings, Ze Pickle food truck, a huge MotorClothes clearance, extra special motorcycle deals, AND our 100 year merchandise, it was a day for the history books.
We welcomed over 1000 of our closest friends to help us commemorate the last 100 years, and build excitement for the next 100, inspired by Marc McAllister’s announcement that Harley-Davidson has committed to introducing 100 new models in the next 10 years.
Our 100th anniversary Show N Shine was a huge success with over 70 bikes vying for a shot at their respective titles, and the coveted “Best In Show”. We were fortunate enough to have some of the best in the business help us out by judging, as we were not game to do it ourselves! Adam Wright – Harley-Davidson Australia & New Zealand Marketing Manager, Neale Brumby – Heavy Duty Magazine Publisher & Editor, and our own Luke Spence – Morgan & Wacker Harley-Davidson Service Manager took on the hard task of picking our winners. A massive congratulation goes out to our Best in Show recipient, Rob McDonald and his 2015 Softail Breakout.
Category and overall winners took home one of a kind, 100th anniversary trophies, each individually signed by Bill Davidson – a prize that will be cherished for a lifetime, and priceless to a true Harley® faithful.
