Gold Coast Harley Custom Character: Craig Reid & his Street Glide
I have always loved Baggers but as soon as I saw the 2015 CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE) in Molten Silver featured in ‘Heavy Duty’ magazine its original look grabbed me.
The next day I went down to Gold Coast Harley-Davidson where I met Jake. I told him about my interest in a Streety. He then arranged a test ride on one. Before I put my helmet on he warned me….. Be prepared….. If you ride one you’ll want one! He was right.
Back at the shop I told him how great it was. For a 6 foot 3, 100kg bloke like myself I felt a bit cramped like I did on my Fat Boy before it was modified. He suggested we go and have a chat with Doug and see what he thinks.
“CVO Street Glide with minor modifications or a fully tricked up FLHXS Street Glide to fit a boofhead like myself” were my instructions. We chatted for an hour or so before deciding to go home and run it past the Cheese & Kisses.
The next day I went back to the shop to inform them that I would like to Customise and that’s when ‘Blood n Bone’ was born.
The whole project took 50 weeks to get it to how it looks today. In between I rode it down to the Tamworth National HOG Rally. I couldn’t believe how comfortable it was to ride for a long legged bloke like myself and the luxury of having Air Ride Suspension on the rear added even more to the experience.
We won Best Custom.
On return it was back to the shop for more customising. I remember going the shop one day where it was nothing but a frame and wires.
It was finally ready on the 18th of September of this year, paint job and all, just in time for the QLD state HOG rally where we won Best Custom again!
You probably have noticed that when ‘Blood n Bone’ has won an award I always quote ‘WE’. That’s because it has always been a team effort from everybody at shop throughout the build. During the project I was lucky enough to build great mate-ships with a lot of the team at Gold Coast Harley-Davidson.
My advice to anyone planning on building a custom bike is to enjoy the process. Not everything will always go to plan and sometimes waiting for parts to arrive from overseas takes longer than anticipated. Remember it’s a first world problem and you may never get the chance to do it again.
If you’re wondering how the bike got its name ‘Blood n Bone’
I’m a Butcher!
